I agree! However, to me - aging naturally IS aging gracefully

Aging gracefully to me is moving authentically, holding oneself accountable, caring for others etc

My comb pulled out a gray hair this morning. I held it up to my husband and said, "Look at her! She's so cute!"

He just smiled and gave me a kiss.

I will never get rid of my beautiful gray babies! Love them šŸ’•

Most disheartening thing about it for me is how my older women relatives are all chase that falce ideal and seem inconsolable at any sign of diverging from it... It causes them so much stress over something that is basically fictional; as if life isn't stressful enough already

We hear you! They wont normalise aging, anti aging is literally their sales pitch. The pharmaceutical industry doesn't normalise health and well being, they normalise taking pills. Its business and its in their best interest to propagate the issues.

This has been on my mind a lot lately as a woman who just turned 30. Iā€™ll start to feel a certain way about my fine lines and the random white hairs that pop up and I have to stop and thinkā€¦ am I really worried about this? is this ACTUALLY negatively impacting my life? or are big companies just trying to sell me a solution to the insecurities they created? Itā€™s so tiring just trying to stay sane.

Amen! And 99% of topical products donā€™t do what they promise anyway

I am aging clumsily, with dry skin and wrinkles and wild gray hair. šŸ˜‚The only product I use RELIGIOUSLY is sunscreen; I'm trying to NOT get skin cancer. Other than that, ain't nobody got time to be worried about trying to look young! I'm embracing my "Aunt Bea" years

I'm aging but there is a LOT to be said for taking really good care of your skin. My very ginger father had skin cancer; as a result I (61, easily pass for 45) avoid the sun like the plague and periodically do a round of retin -a. No to botox and fillers but a huge yes to aggressive skin care.

Total agree. The beauty industry super screwed up my head and at 22 Iā€™m still unlearning it. Through my teen years I had filler, Botox, and even some surgical cosmetic procedures. When I stopped getting them at 17-18, and the changes from not getting them showed at 19ā€¦ I had a total breakdown about my face aging. Itā€™s still hard for me to look in the mirror and see I have totally normal wrinkles for my age, because Iā€™m still so used to my face just beingā€¦ smooth and unmoving. It messes you up.

They just want money. Women being comfortable in their skin at ANY age wont make them rich. But inventing insecurities and profitting off of them sure will.

I hear what youā€™re saying, just take of your skin or body and what you put in your body but the obsession part I donā€™t agree with. I know a lady who is in her 60s, she doesnā€™t look it or act it, she refuses to grow up, I thought she was 40 acting 20. She barely eats, sheā€™s a size zero and wants to stay young forever and sheā€™s Caucasian. She spends a lot on beauty products and is always talking about make up and clothes. This is what her mother instilled in her. Beauty over brains and ambition.

To me, aging gracefully is aging healthily. Too many people care too much about their looks when they get older and dont invest anything on healthy aging. Having healthy habits like good diet, exercise, not smoking or drinking, sleeping enough, etc...because i do really believe that being healthy does make people look younger, and most importantly, feel younger. As long as you feel young, you are young. Mentally, physically, in every way strive for feeling young.
Whats the point in having a residence home full of elders with pillowface and dementia? We are living more than ever, there are plenty of centenaries already...
When i see older people like 80 years + being able to have a totally independent live...like THATS THE PRIVILEGE, thats the aging gracefully... thats what we should be worrying about...because i do think about myself being very old and still being able to be totally independent in every way...i dont usually think about looking botoxified...

Sunscreen is key. That is the one thing that wasn't promoted to women, especially black women when I was younger. I didn't start using any until I was 35 and then it was only SPF 15. I just feel that the rest of this stuff, besides retinol I guess, is just a cash grab.

Yes, we should all age naturally. But we all should somewhat have a healthy skin routine. If all you do is wash your face with the same rag you scrub your backside with and your feet and have good skin, excellent. But we're all not identical either. You may be 65 for all we know and look 28. I am 42 and look 42. I aint mad. I use a face pad, a face soap and moisturizer and tinted broad spectrum sunscreen for makeup foundation. I dont dye my hair. I don't use chemicals. I use a co-wash as a hair cleanser and only a comb. I don't tan or fake bake. I don't sit in a nail salon spending money trying to have something on my hands that are just gonna break and get dirty. Makeup, clothes, shoes, fake eyelashes, drawn on brows, fake jewelry folks try to pass off as real, lip injections, wigs, hair pieces.... all that stuff folks use...its designed to make you think you look younger and feel younger. You can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time. But you can't fool all the people, all the time. Do what you want but do it because you want to. Not because some advertisements told you you should.
