An RPG weapon, or rocket-propelled grenade, is a shoulder-fired tube that launches a rocket with an explosive warhead. RPGs are often used as anti-tank weapons and can be carried by a single soldier.
The Soviet Union first designed the RPG-7 in the early 1960s as an anti-armor weapon. The RPG-7 is based on the German Panzerfaust anti-tank weapon and has been modified many times, including the RPG-2 and RPG-3. The RPG-7 is now manufactured by the Bazalt company and is used by armies in over 40 countries, as well as terrorist organizations in the Middle East and Latin America.
Here's how the RPG-7 works:
The operator screws a propelling charge onto the end of a warhead.
The launcher rests on the firer's shoulder.
The rocket is percussion fired, causing gasses to escape the nozzle at high velocity and launch the rocket.
As the rocket emerges from the tube, large fins spring out, along with a motor that allows the missile to travel a great distance.
The RPG-7 has also become a popular weapon in pop culture, often used in movies and video games to add explosive action.
