Sterling use to cover up a lot of Southgate’s shit. No Raheem look at them. His play got England out of the group stages in the last 3 tournaments.

Southgate obviously isn't good enough. But the hate he gets is ridiculous. Everyone forgets just how bad we were pre 2016. We didn't just lost against the top sides we struggled to beat the whipping boys too.
As i said, Southgate now absolutely needs to move on after this tournament and probably should've moved on after the previous one. But you have to appreciate where he dragged us from. After Euro 96 upto 2016 England were a joke and a laughing stock.
That's 20 years of complete crapfest. Even when he come in and done the whipping boys 5-0 people actually had the audacity to moan and say we should've done them 10-0. English football fans are the worst most fickle fans I've come across

this is true in large part but not all. remember Eriksson's England going into the same shell after scoring early vs Paraguay, remember Hodgson's doing same vs Iceland, and paying dearly? England almost always loses to its 'peers' in international football; the root of the problem must lie deeper than Southgate, who for all relative easiness of opposition mentioned here, was t least able to pull England to two semifinals. some other managers, including respected ones like Greenwood, Hodgson, Eriksson, Capello couldn't even do that much
