The Indian robin (Copsychus fulicatus) is a small, black bird with a white wing patch and a rusty red undertail: 

Size

The Indian robin is about 16 cm in size and weighs 17–20 g. 

Plumage

Males are mainly black with a white shoulder patch or stripe, and chestnut undertail coverts. Females are brownish above, with no white shoulder stripe, and grayish below. 

Habitat

The Indian robin can be found in open country, at forest edges, around human habitation, and in scrub lands. 

Diet

The Indian robin primarily eats insects, but may also catch frogs and lizards. 

Nesting

The nesting season for the Indian robin is from April to June. The nest is a pad of grass, rootlets, and rubbish lined with feathers or hair. The eggs are creamy white, sometimes tinged greenish, and speckled and blotched with reddy brown. 

Ecological role

The Indian robin is a natural indicator of rapid changes in surroundings. It helps in maintaining and stabilizing the food chain by eradicating insects
