Cutting some highs from the room mics can also help give some separation for the close mics and emphasize the physical space between the close and room mics (psychoacoustics). You can boost the highs on your overheads if you need to get a little stick attack/cymbal wash back.

I love working with VSTs… taking them and making them sound more realistic. I also really love how people can tell when something sounds too perfect. It’s kind of mind blowing actually that our ears can detect that sort of thing.

And when you clean up that area you have more of other places that were getting stomped on and you were boosting to hear them. Suddenly, they don't need as much = even less build-up in other frequency ranges. Another good one here. 👍 Cheers

What is your opinion on adjusting the time alignment of the room mics to prevent double hits on the kicks ?
