I feel like this video is really unfair because while New York absolutely has a problem with housing, un affordability, comparing it to Detroit, Baltimore, and Chicago is unfair considering these cities only have such massive quantities of housing due to mass migration out of the cities in the 1950s onwards towards the sunbelt. Itâs not like theyâre actively building a lot of housing, they just have an incredibly high amount of empty abandoned housing

Comparing NYC to Detroit, Philly, Baltimore amd Chicago doesnt fly...3 of those 4 have been in a state of continuous economic decline for 40-50yrs and are just starting to recover...all 4 have had decades of declining populations too that also recently started recovering in a couple of them... basically by comparison they are "also-ran" cities...
If you look at all the cities in that top list you showed, they are or were booming cities for the last 3-4 decades and were all on the leading edge of the economy...that has an impact on affordability...its easy for the cheaper cities you indicated to be cheaper when for decades they have seen at best sideways growth, while more likely shrank in importance and economic significance...
Its like comparing a rose to an apple and saying the apple tastes better and is easier to eat since its not prickly...
