"This vegan witch who makes spells to defeat Hilter" IS NOT A SENTENCE I THOUGHT I'D HEAR TODAY ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Okay but like Angela Lansbury who plays the witch was originally an UK citizen and has moved to the US to escape the Blitz. They left Liverpool a day before it was bombed. So she lived through something very similar to those children who were sent to her in the movie for their safety.

I saw this movie when I was a child, and Portobello Road stuck in my mind. In June 1999, I took my mother (we are Brazilians) on a trip to London and Europe. On a Saturday, we went to Notting Hill and the market on Portobello Road. When back to Brazil, Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts was released, she was mesmerized to see the market on Portobello Road in the movie, making it an everlasting memory of that trip until her passing two years ago. I had Bed knobs and Broomsticks going for me, she had Notting Hill going for her.

I watched bedknobs and broomsticks when I was younger and I DID NOT REMEBER it had anything to do with WW2. Iโ€™m also pretty sure the headmaster is Mr Banks from Mary Poppins

The living armor scene in Bedknobs and Broomsticks got me into history at such a young age!

The film was nominated for 4 Oscars, production design, costume design, orginal score and visual effects. It won the Oscar for best visual effects.
Angela Lansbury was perfection.

My aunt had this on vhs. Me and a dozen or so of my cousins would watch this at least 3 times every summer of my childhood. We still sing Portobello Road.

Eglantine Price was a great motivator for Minerva McGonagall, as seen in the Battle of Hogwarts in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2". When Voldemort's army is attacking the school, Prof McGonagall says a spell that brings to life all the statuary there, and gives them the direction to protect Hogwarts. (She always wanted to try that spell!) It had to be the substitutiary locomotion spell.

The movie does what I haven't seen a lot of others do, which is acknowledge the Caribbean contribution to the war. We were all British/European citizens back then, but most people were all for fighting against Nazi rule. We knew that after the fall of Britain we were next. (Maybe not literally but eventually).

I watched this like 20 times as a kid and I swear to god the DMT bed flying scene is a deeply recessed memory I didnโ€™t need to remember.

I was raised on that movie, and I had absolutely NO IDEA what the plot was. But I could never forget those steel drums and trippy sequences ๐Ÿซ

Honestly one of the best and most underrated Disney movies. Amazing songs, great acting and animation, and the effects are both somehow ridiculously good and cheesy at the same time. Portobello Road is one of the best movie dance sequences EVER!

Thank you for introducing this to a new generation. I think a lot of questions could be answered about me since this movie was foundational in my childhood.
