I think another thing of Area Zero is absolutely the feeling of "You don't belong here." All the otherworldly architecture and structures, the mysterious crystals and just the overall presence. It feels like a place that nature has taken over and made nearly uninhibitable to humanity.
(Also helps the music adds to it with the chorus and almost synthetic tunes adding to that "unnatural" atmosphere)

Scarlet and Violet are probably the first pokémon games to feel like real console experiences. and it's a shame because if they were just giving more time I think that they could stand side by side with switch classics like botw and odyssey, as opposed to just being great by pokemon games standards.

Honestly weird positioning of this being in a villain list aside, I agree so hard. I wish Pokémon would lean more into fantasy elements in its worlds.
People have psychic abilities sometimes for fuck sake and we never go into that??? There’s no magical places that are just part of the worlds even though we’ve been told to believe it? It’s all just modern day with animals?
Where’s the excitement, the majesty. Lean into the fantasy, give us stupidly unrealistic but fun worlds like (cheap comparison I know but-) breath of the wild and such. It doesn’t go so far as to look entirely unrealistic but it’s got cool fantasy areas and Pokémon could do with more of those to make this world feel more…I dunno. Right? Maybe that’s just my opinion though but really they do need to explain the humans having powers-

Insane take to call the enviroment a villain, but you know what? IT SHOULD BE. Maybe not a villain as much as an antagonist, but point still stands, wild areas should be places where pokemon should be believed to live and be a threat in, not all wild areas have to be this fantastical place on the same level as area zero, but having one or two would be better than having NONE. I think it would be cool if we had a combination of "domesticated" routes where pokemon are somewhat weak but friendlier and the wild areas where pokemon are stronger but more ferocious and harder to befriend, idk I think it'd be cool, but this is a mostly unrelated topic to the short, but I wanted to say it.

i mean, imo this issue was lesser in the 2d games since you couldn't see everything and majority of the stuff was left up to the imagination, but with these newer games yeah. area 0 felt like such a breath of fresh air when everything else was just a random map with some barren towns and random hills.

Not to mention, the paradox Mons aren't just a rat, or a bird, they are actually dangerous and if you didn't have Pokemon with you, you're Arven's Dad/Mom.
