I think the focus of Digital vs Physical media arguments have been misplaced.
The fact of the matter is that media publishers have been behaving the same way for decades, if not centuries.
If they can't make piles of money off of something any more, they don't want ANYONE to have access to it ever again, for meaningless, petty reasons.
Physical books and recordings of audio and video, now including games, allowed those who VALUE creative media as a part of culture to preserve those things IN SPITE of Centuries of that behavior.
However ... dying on the hill of collecting Unpatched, day Zero game disks will not solve the issue.
Media CULTURE, and the relationship between the Public and Greedy, Apathetic Licence holders needs to CHANGE. That means changing consumer behavior and demanding more respect from Content Licence holders for the Media they deny from public consumption.
Honestly ... I think some base LAWS about media content need to be rewritten, and only We the public can drive that change.
Unpatched, day zero games are NOT the valued content we need to fight to preserve, but the actual Media itself.
Deleting Books, Music, Video or Games from EXISTENCE should be ILLEGAL.
