Unfortunately the government has been doing it for decades. There were companies who would help owners find their money but it such a tedious task and a lot of people were not trusting of the companies to give away their information because of all the scams! So people just let it go…sad that it’s taken this long but GOD is GOOD! Let’s just hope they don’t make it a hassle to get those funds back!

In New Jersey tax liens are sold to the people that bid the lowest interest rate. People only bid down the interest rates, in competitive bidding on the most desirable properties. People have a two year redemption period to pay the outstanding taxes and interest to redeem the property.
In areas where property is more desirable tax liens are rare because people that are in financial distress tend to sell the property before it reaches that point.
