Actually bought a second hand canyon sl alx 9.9 from 2017. Hasnt been ridden in 3 years.
Everything runs great. Only downside, have to maintain the whole thing. Al the grease, fluids etc. the only thing left, fork and headset. €500

I got a wal mart bike and it works ok. Be thankful for what you got, not what you want. If you can afford it, better for you.

Started on a rockrider st50 at 200$ to get used to going down small hills, now i ride a Rockrider st530s at 780$ and i love it, my next upgrade will be either a Moondraker super foxy which is 4,000$ or a Cube Stereo one22 at 2200$ but i'll have to change the shock to coil... i don't like air shocks
Still have the Rockrider St50, im converting that into a delimited e-bike 😁

When someone asks me questions like this I tell them it’s cheaper to spend a couple thousand on a decent bike than a hospital visit from a cheap bike inevitably breaking and having a devastating crash. Had a buddy buy an early 2000’s yeti and he was so excited. Dude I got this YETI for 300 bux. Well the rear triangle snapped in half. He had a really bad crash and the bike was totaled. Old bikes are beach cruisers.

You could find a perfectly capable retro hardtail for that price as long as the person selling does not call it a retro hardtail.
