The standard-bearer of the majority opposition in Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, said on Tuesday that citizens voted in the presidential elections on July 28 for "a country without persecution or forced migration," referring to his candidacy, which he says was the winner in these elections, despite the fact that the electoral body declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner.
In a message published on X, the leader of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) - the main opposition bloc - also said that Venezuelans voted "resoundingly" for "a country where the currency is worth," public services "work," there are "decent salaries and pensions," an education that "generates opportunities" and "quality" hospitals.
"That desire will not stop. Let us all work for that peaceful, orderly transition with guarantees that Venezuela demands," added the former ambassador, to whom the PUD attributes the electoral victory based on "83.5%" of the "records" that he says he collected thanks to people who were witnesses and members of the table on July 28, documents that Chavismo insists are "false."
On Monday, González Urrutia urged Maduro and his government to "step aside and take the step now to begin a peaceful transition," while expressing his willingness to begin a "political dialogue" focused on "the definitive democratic transformation" of Venezuela.
