The Compromise of 1877 is different from recent times in that it was a compromise meaning both parties got something they wanted. For the Republicans, they got Hayes as president. For the Democrats, they got the Union, err, I mean the US Army to withdraw from the southern states. Each party got a little something & everyone remained unhappy.

President Hayes invited Thomas Edison to the White House in 1878 to demonstrate his newly-invented phonograph. It was a very simple machine that totally blew the world away because nobody had ever witnessed such a thing before. History doesn't record this, but no doubt during that demonstration Mr. Hayes was invited to give the phonograph a try. That would have made him the first U.S. president to have his voice recorded. However, the tinfoil records were very fragile and only good for one or two plays. So it's safe to assume that record no longer exists.

Numerous people are arguing that 2020 was more fraudulent. Again, this channel is about history, and I stay away from current politics. 1876 nearly resulted in a Constitutional crisis, and was literally decided in a back room deal. It deserves to be remembered.
