Letting it tail off and flow right back into the beat has always been one of my favorite parts of the song

I always felt that the bassline really made teen spirit. Really grabs and pulls you into the song.

That layer held over the verse, the way the feedback blooms.

It's so sonically wicked

I mean, it's just exactly fucking perfect.

All of Nirvana's music was a masterclass in subtlety.

Butch I just wanted to say something that has probably been said to you thousands of times but your work with Nirvana especially is beyond top notch. The 3 musicians already had the talent for sure but you just put it together so incredibly sweet, all those little things that make up the bigger picture. Thank you Butch, Thank you!!!

These shorts really show how critical a great engineer with a truly inspired ear is to making great music even better. Thank you!

is there an entire video of Butch talking us through the entire recording process. it's so interesting, it'd be cool to see the inner workings of how it was done.

I love how you can see that, when listening back, Butch is genuinely humbled and awed by the majesty of the talent of Kurt Cobain and honoured he played a part in bringing it to the world.

The way rings so perfectly, then the second layer swells in until the chorus kicks off. There was definitely some trickery at work that I would love to know how it’s done. It’s the little fine details like that, when multiple people combine their various talents to make a simple song transcend into a masterpiece piece. This is the song that made Nirvana. Everything that happened after was all because of this song.

Never realized that was reverb and I'm no musician but a good listener and that was exactly what it needed!

I have an old Marshall Lead 12 guitar amplifier that when cranked up will feedback beautifully with those same otherworldly harmonic overtones and sustain.

What I would have given to have the internet as a resource when I was learning guitar in the last 80's and 90's
