I honestly hate muffalo herds, man. The only thing that managed to down my hussar ghoul with 20 melee. And he solo'd grizzlies and groups of shamblers with no support.

You should always be selecting your targets when low shooting skill and under good tier hunting weapons, and a herd that size will always have one with a previous injury and thus easier to hunt.
