Having served on the commissioning crew of the SSBN Nevada, and meeting some of the earlier Nevada crew (including Pearl Harbor crew), the ship survived both nuclear tests and was later sunk near the islands of Hawaii. I remember we had a burial at Sea above the hull from a couple of former crew members.

And despite having a bomb dropped on it twice, it didnā€™t sink from that.

Should have been a museum ship

She is somewhere down deep between Hawaii and California. In about 500 years, she will no longer be radioactive. As deep as she is, there will be little decay (rust). Maybe future archaeologists will visit her and possibly raise her from the depths.

This is the battleship that the Japanese surrender should have happened on.

We build battleships so good we had to double tap it with nukes and it still didn't sink

There's a lot of ships out there that shouldn't have been destroyed. Just to preserve the memories of the man that fought with her.

Then they missed the target by nearly half a mile.
Early atomic weapons were notoriously inaccurate. Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Crossroads-Able test all missed their targets badly. Even the concrete filled Pumpkin test bombs rarely came close to hitting their targets in practice.
The problems were many fold. The bombs were dropped from extremely high altitude of more than 30,000 feet to give the bombers time to turn away and escape. The aerodynamics of the Fatman Mark 3 bombs were terrible. It was basically a 10,000 pound bolling ball 5 feet in diameter with too small of a tail attached. The Norden bombsight wasn't nearly as accurate as the propaganda portrayed, especially above 10,000 feet.
But as they say, close only counts in horseshoes and nuclear weapons.

Worst thing we did was put the prinz eugen (sorry if misspelt) in that test. She was a beauty of the sea and we let her sink away without the world seeing her incomparable features
