In the south, the slaves would wait until the master and guests left the table, then clean up. And they would take any leftover liquor back to the slave quarters, put the cherries in the bottles and by the holidays, it was ready to drink. This information came from one of Mark Kurlansky’s books about when our country was young.

is that all they found, Thomas Jefferson had one of the largest plantations over 5000 acres with 2 plantations, they were fully self sufficient they made everything from liquor to leather, with hundreds of slaves.
