The Starpath Supercharger was a plug and play device that let you load games on cassette to your Atari 2600. It added RAM which help make the games look and run better. #shorts

I had no idea the 2600 could do that. There's always something new to learn about retrogames

Vintage technology never fails to impress me. Love finding out about things like this I never knew about before.

I had to watch this twice just to see that difference in quality. I remember first learning about this from you. Even having played Atari as a kid, I had no idea cassette versions of games existed.

I had this back in the day. Took what seemed like forever to load.

I had this back when I was a teenager and the pack in game, Phaser Patrol, is still the most impressive 2600 game I think I've ever seen,

Interesting stuff. I knew of cassette games for computers, but I didn't know there was an Atari 2600 peripheral for it. That Frogger version on cassette looked awesome.

I owned this add on system back in the 80s. The first rpg "Dragon Stomper" and a FPV puzzle game. Later, when I got coleco I had to tear some of the plastic off the console so it would fit the Atari 2600 add on expansion.

Man look at those game covers! I do miss the variety in those. Now is just someone holding a gun/axe/sword in different poses.... Back then they looked like Metal Album Covers.

The supercharge came out in 82 or 83. Meanwhile there were MANY, MANY tape systems out there ranging from the osborne machines, to the Apple I and Apple II, the commodore pet, the Vic 20 and many others. Frankly, it's one of the NEWEST tape systems, not oldest.

A friend of mine showed off his new game called "Dragon Stomper" and it blew my little mind how much better it was than my crappy "Adventure".

Speedball is an amazing game. Used to play it on my Amiga 2000 and it could be played on the Amiga 500. Just an amazing game by the Bitmap Brothers.

Did you know, that even before video games came printed in magazines, and you had to manually type them into the memory of the computer if you wanted to play them..?

This is the first time I've ever heard of the adapter! I've watched a great many things of like "lost and forgotten" stuff for games, but that device has never been mentioned before. That's a really cool device.

Those were the days. Trying to load a game onto the ZX Spectrum for an hour with a tape recorder, only for the load to fail.

As an AVGN fan, I was not surprised to learn this.

Edit: I should learn to watch the whole video before commenting, I didn’t know the Atari 2600 had these add-on’s, this was a cool video.
