Iā€™m a Florida Gator lady and Iā€™ve seen a 8 ft alligator climb over a 6 ft chain link fence. Donā€™t think for one second that the gator was just waiting for her to drop. Thank God that she and the officer made out alive.

If the water is wet, thereā€™s gators in that water

I donā€™t live in Florida but I have been told to never swim in any of the lakes, rivers, anything but a pool because of alligators.

FYI - sharks ,gators and crocs can't attack you if you don't go where they live . . .

1. Gators can climb and theyā€™re quite good at it.

2. That gator was probably being fed by people at some point. They donā€™t see us as a food source until we make them see us as a food source.

3. If itā€™s a body of water in Florida, always assume thereā€™s a gator in it. Thatā€™s something we learn as children here.

99.9% of Florida's fresh water has had, has, or will have an alligator in it. Don't swim. Learned this as a kid. I've been visiting Florida my whole life.

Raised in Florida. Used to swim in the canals. Gators never bothered us but all it takes is one time

Probably one of the first things my father taught me as a young girl in Florida was that you have to be aware that any body of water, including small streams that run along the side of the road may contain alligators.
Common sense knowledge that was prevalent in earlier generations seems to be lacking in current ones.

Stay out of alligator infested waters in Florida please!

This is why you donā€™t swim in freshwater anywhere in Florida. Kayak at a minimum. Stay away completely during Spring because itā€™s mating season.

I once visited my high school classmate in florida. Their house was like a couple of hundred meters away from a lake or something. Relaxing on a hammock by the house front door, fell asleep and woke up minutes after with an alligator right beside me!!!!!!! It was like a looney tunes moment. My soul literally left my body out of terroršŸ˜…šŸ˜…

The deputy deserves a whole lot of credit. He actually put himself in the water to try and rescue the teen. I'm glad they both made it out safely.

The gator did what gators do and she got lucky because theyā€™re excellent climbers and theyā€™re extremely patient. This is why you donā€™t go swimming or tubing on the water in Florida. Never!
