I wish Bill would just to this, all day every day. No more coaching, no more podcasts, just take us to the film room and teach us the game.

Man this is why bill rocks. Pulled out some obscure Walter Payton college highlights. He is a wealth of football history and knowledge

I remember these games deep into the 70's. Have to be nuts to do that today.

Lambert was probably so angry on sidelines I swear he killed someone that night

There's a reason Walter Payton has one of the most prestigious awards in football named after him. His talent and skill were unparalleled.

SWEETNESS! My all time favorite! When I was a kid in the backyard I one handed the ball and high stepped my way for a TD (just past the maple tree)

The NFL Network should have a show where he reviews 5 players who are forgotten or from the past and I would watch every episode

I remember as a kid watching that every year to open up the exhibition season in the NFL. Walter Payton grew up only about thirty miles from me in MS, but l didn’t hear about him until the high school sports ‘know it all’ mentioned him one morning before class in high school. My very first NFL happened to be the Bears in 1977, visiting Miami in the old Orange Bowl during my first year at my first AF duty station in south Florida, with Walter in maybe his rookie season with the Bears.

A friend of mine played linebacker for the Houston Oilers in 70/80s and before facing the Bears he told the defense to disregard Payton’s diminutive size (5’10”, 205 lbs) and prepare for the power of a 250 lb fullback.

For instance: in the 1985 NFC divisional playoff game between the Bears and the Giants, Payton pancake blocked Lawrence Taylor not once but twice. Payton was the best all around (running/blocking/receiving) back the game has ever seen.

I've never heard of this game before and I've been watching for over 40 years. Thanks for this history.

If you asked Payton how he was feeling before going out against one of the best defenses ever he would tell you he’s about to dominate. Dude was a monster
