You can just tell how practical these were in an actual battle by complete lack of any pictures from the era besides these from a test

It’s so ingenious that it’s never been used again by anyone anywhere ever.

Imagine being a tank commander stopping by an enemy fortification to dismount the infantry, looking behind you, and noticing the sleds were completely gone.

As a retired Soldier, I can say with 100% confidence, we would have been asleep within 3 seconds of getting into that thing.

As a Veteran, my first thought about this was that I could get a quality nap in while they were towing me to the front line

They were used in Anzio, however the tanks attracted artillery fire, tanks would have to change direction dumping the guys out of the sleds into the middle of the battlefield. According to WW2 talk , the sleds made a hasty exit from military history. They were torpedo shells cut in half.

Couldn’t imagine the seconds of getting out of the sled expecting everything to go black at any moment.

Those were used in Italy where advancing GIs had to cross wide open spaces. The sleds were made from halves of aerial torpedo transport containers made from heavy gauge sheet metal.

Holding on for dear life? Looks pretty smooth to me. Our brave men don't need any exaggeration, they were already our heros.

I've read and studied A LOT of WWII history. It is pretty rare for me to come across something I have heard absolutely nothing about. This is definitely one of those times.

I have never even heard of such a thing, but it's brilliant in its simplicity.
