If you want to bike with your dog you need to read this … 🫢

It is so important to keep you and your dog safe while riding, so here are a few tips that I have used while doing bike rides with dogs!

-Master walking first! If your dog doesn’t follow you on walks, and is not used to following rules and boundaries, then bike riding just won’t work, unless your intentions are to have them tow you!
-A very important rule while walking should be “no crossing over in front of me”. Once you are able to communicate this with your leash handling, you can communicate this easier while on a bike.
-Start very slow! As you can see in this video, I am not leaving the driveway with Remy here. I ride as slow as i can and i start making small circles so she learns to yield to the bike
-In the beginning I use one hand to ride and one hand to lead the dog on leash. Once I’m comfortable that the dog understands the flow of movement, I can relax a little bit and use 2 hands
-Go at the dog’s pace until they gradually get more comfortable running alongside the bike. Depending on the dog, I will only increase speed with little to no distractions
-I like to make sure I feel the leash either in my hand or around my arm at all times, because if I feel any pressure in the leash, I am immediately breaking for safety.
-In my opinion, the safest leash you can use for bike riding is the slip lead. Collars can slip off and I don’t think head halters are necessary
