In my opinion 1998's Godzilla's only sin was trying to be the King of the Monsters we were so familiar with for decades. Design and personality wise it's a good Kaiju but nowhere good enough to be the King of the Monsters we all know and love.
Zilla Jr did a better job at being Godzilla, atomic breath, smart, agile as f and overall, just different enough to be his own being, but still, if they were a completely different Kaiju from the Big G, I'm sure both versions would've been loved by the fans.
Both on a 8.9/10 for me on it's own.
But a 7/10 on being Godzilla for the 1998 version and a 7.7 or 8/10 on Jr's favor.
