An extra info on that: the guy who said the bones probably were cremated was the head of the firefighters who arrived around 45 minutes late to the scene because he didnā€™t know how to drive a firetruck and had to wait until one of his employees came to drive him

My first guess is that the fire was a coverup for a murder.

This happened in West Virginia, in 1945 christmas eve (December 24th), what causes the fire from the sodders house is faulty wiring. The five children were Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jennie, and Betty were never found. They also brought private investigators to find them. But there's still no evidence for the missing children and they were never found and the children died.
Rest in peace šŸ™

I remember reading about this a long time ago. Apparently the parents hired a private investigator and it highlights the odds of the childrens being kidnapped as high. Too long to explain, but there's a thorough research abt this incident. I suggest reading it yourself if you want

It sounds like youā€™re referring to the case of the Sodder family, a real-life mystery that occurred in Fayetteville, West Virginia, in 1945. Hereā€™s an overview of the case:

The Incident:

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1945, the Sodder familyā€™s house caught fire. The parents, George and Jennie Sodder, and nine of their ten children were in the home. Five of the children were believed to have perished in the fire, but their remains were never found, leading to one of the most perplexing unsolved mysteries in history.

Key Details:

1. The Fire:
ā€¢ The fire began in the middle of the night.
ā€¢ George and Jennie, along with four of their children, escaped the house.
ā€¢ The remaining five childrenā€”Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jennie, and Bettyā€”were thought to be trapped inside.
2. The Missing Remains:
ā€¢ Despite an extensive search of the rubble, no human remains were found.
ā€¢ Experts later stated that it was unlikely a fire of that nature would completely destroy bones.
3. Suspicious Circumstances:
ā€¢ The familyā€™s ladder, which could have been used for a rescue, was missing and later found in a ditch.
ā€¢ The phone line was cut, preventing any calls for help.
ā€¢ A delivery driver reported seeing suspicious activity in the area before the fire.
4. Theories and Evidence:
ā€¢ Kidnapping Theory: The Sodders believed the children might have been kidnapped. Over the years, there were alleged sightings of the children in different locations.
ā€¢ A strange photograph was sent to the Sodder family in 1968, showing a man who resembled one of their missing sons, Louis.
5. Possible Motive:
ā€¢ George Sodder, an outspoken critic of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, had received threats from local individuals who supported the dictator.

The Legacy:

The Sodder family never stopped searching for answers. They erected a billboard near their home with information about the case and a reward for anyone who could provide details about their missing children. The case remains unsolved to this day.

And this is chatGPT šŸ’—

I actually watched an Andy Jiang video about this that had a lot of information.

Apparently, according to the video the fire was only a cover up for the kidnapping of the children.
And, one of the firefighters (I think, but it might be someone else) felt very bad for the family that he somehow managed to get a hold of a heart (I think from like a hospital) and gave it to the family to make them believe that they really were dead, so they wouldnā€™t have to look. (He meant it in a good way) It was not that much time later that it was revealed that the heart was in fact NOT one of the childrenā€™s hearts.

Here's what I think happened. The husband, George, was an Italian immigrant who moved to an Italian community in West Virginia. He had lots of arguments with other residents because of his opposition with Benito Mussolini. Two months before the fire, he had an argument with a life insurance salesman who said his house would go up in smoke an his children would be destroyed. Then another guy came and said the fuse boxes would cause a fire. On the night of the fire, the 5 missing children were sleeping on the 2nd floor. When the parents and four children made it out, they called to the five children, but no one answered. George went for the ladder, but it was gone. He then went for a bucket to put the fire out, but it froze. He then went for his truck, but it didn't work. And those phone lines were even cut, so help didn't arrive until the moring. After the fire, the parents assumed that the fire was caused by arson and that the children were taking by the Sicilian mafia back to Italy. However, in 1967, the family received a photo that looked like an adult version of one of their sons, but no one knows to this day what happened. Just my theory.

Fun fact: At the average fire temperature (around 400 or more) the human bone could not even completely burn down to ash, because the temperature would be too low
