Was Palpatine's Return Foreshadowed in Return of the Jedi?

Were the blue flames seen during the Emperorā€™s death a sign of Sith alchemy? To me, this answer is all down to headcanon. Personally, I think it was just a massive explosion of energy that looked cool and, ironically, at the time, was probably meant to show how super duper definitely dead the Emperor was. See? He exploded! Just like Darth Maul getting cut in half. Super dead guy, right there. But we now know that Palpatine lived on in both canon and Star Wars Legends. So I see absolutely no harm in claiming those blue flames as foreshadowing for the return of Darth Sidious. Iā€™ve never seen anything to suggest a direct connection in another book or comic or anythingā€¦but Iā€™ve also never seen anything to disprove it. So if you like that idea, I say believe it all you want! #starwars

I think when Joruus C'baoth died something similar happened, so it was originally meant to just be an explosion of dark side energy when a dark sider dies.

The only way to be sure is to see the body and to go for the head. Thatā€™s why snipers exist.

I mean no, it wasn't foreshadowing. But if it helps the new Canon seem more reasonable it's okay to treat it as such.

The fact that the people who hate the new canon refuse to aknowledge that Palpatine living on is straight from the original canon. Hell even had the cloning bullshit and evreything in the 90s

Lucasfilm should have forbidden this plot point both times. Instead, when they had the chance to fix it, they chose to pass over most of the coolest things from the EU and go straight for the dumbest things lol.

I still find it baffing that Palpatine's return was one of the more hated things in Legends as it ruins Darth Vader's redemption, and Disney thought it was a good idea to bring it back into canon.

For me, the sequels are NOT canon

Before the prequels even came out, I was always a little suspicious of those blue flames and I figured it was a sign that something of Palpatine survived, even if it was just some basic dark side energy/force that he possessed or which had possessed him. I'm no fan of the sequels, but the one thing I think I can deal with is the return of Sidious, it's just the execution that sucked.
