Early Jazz instrumentation reflected that of the Military Bands, although the Bugle was soon replaced by the more flexible Cornet.
The arpeggio style of soloing and improvisation remained popular from the early 1900's through to the 1920's and has had a big influence on all the Jazz styles that have followed.
Bugle Call Jazz has a resurgence in the 1960's in England when "Traditional" or "Trad Jazz! Musicians had a cultural battle with the emerging Be Bob and Modernists.

A couple of years back I used bugle calls as an ear training aid. Pretty effective actually. Earlier today I was thinking about this and a quick search put your film up. Really enjoyable presentation. I have searched but can’t find another reference to Bugle Call Jazz on the internet but I think it is an excellent description. Can you recommend a player that is a clear example of this influence? Coleman Hawkins springs to mind but I was thinking maybe a trumpet player who exhibits this bugle call technique. Thanks.
