"I hope you enjoy this short as much as we enjoy the alembic, the oils and hydrosols, and cooking underneath it.
We have learned if the air temperature is lower than 20 degrees or if it is too windy the water doesn’t boil enough to make good steam. Likewise in summer it’s good if there’s a breeze to cool it down but not so strong it blows the flame. We use a lot of water for cooking which comes from our well then goes to water the plants.
The design is such that it is a bit hot around my feet and we have to stand back. The temperature gets up to well above 500 degrees (the thermometer maximum). To cook on the embers we need to wait at least an hour, often longer. The whole experience is utterly wonderful, a conclusion of harvesting and drying the lavender and the beginning of using the oils and hydrosols."
