I love his redemption arc. Hes such a good character. He truly does love and care about her and his people but I dont believe he was raised correctly based on how his father and brother are.

For context the red haired girl is a princess driven from her home by her cousin and crush Zuan who killed her fsther to be king. The man she dove for off the cliff is one of the 5 generals in charge of the kingdoms safey and hes nothing to sneeze at. Son Hawk was poisoned with either arrows or snakes im unsure of which as its been a nunber of years since ive seen this anime, but after being stagnent greiving the loss of her father home and kingdom, along with the realization her only love took it all, Yona finally took a step forward to becoming the princess she always was. Cutting her "unruley hair" as such a step, as it was one of the many dumb things she fret over as princess.
The man trying to grab her hair was the son of one of the 5 generals, and was ment to bring Yona back alive so as to ensure the new kings rule, if not exicute her if uncooperative. It hits hard for him that the princess is thought dead when he was given no punishment despite his begging for one by Zuan.
Do not fret my chitlilas This is only episode 2 or 13 of a 24 episode series, her fate is not death.
Sadly tho the anime was never finished and i dont think it ever will be

Yona is one of my fav female characters, she goes from nice yes but she changes gears super fast, takes care of herself and everyone around her 👏

Just imagine: She would rather die with him without hesitation (even stopped once by her hair) than survive and live with this guy, the son of a lord. His mind broke. He didn't realize she was not what he thought of her. Thus his redemption arc.
