Hereâs a good tip to possibly help tell if a car has a dirty engine before buying it. Check out the oil. If it appears real clean, take it for a nice long test drive, and then check the oil again when you return. If it looks quite a bit darker than the first time you looked at it.. The engine is dirty and quite possibly sludged up.

I got a 2017 kia rio with 285,000+ miles. Runs like a champ. Regular oil changes and maintenance. Also a 2024 Toyota Rav 4 50,000 miles. Well maintaned as well. Kia isnt a bad car if you properly maintain.

I have a 2018 Hyundai Kona with 126k miles, bought at 62k miles. At 126k miles, the dowel pins on the engine sheered off, destroyed the timing, and made the piston heads rub against the cylinder walls. This was a product flaw on Hyundai's part that the dealership admitted to, but won't recall. Luckily, I had an extended warranty and the policy is paying for a remanufactured engine.

Nobody can get a busy mechanic to go with them to inspect a vehicle.
Ask âwhat will it cost?â They just wonât have time with all the other work to in the shop.
Offer a ridiculous amount ($100/hour) and youâll hear. âI just too much work in the shop to finishâ
You will never get a certified mechanic escort to help you buy a used car. Not even family.
Only a part time DIY guy might have time but not a certified mechanic đ¤ˇ

My Hyundai had been wonderful to me. 220 k on my 2012 Santa fe never had any major issues after putting 70k on it in 4 years. A great car.

Yep had my motor on my 13 optima 2.0t lock up at 97k luckily kia put a new motor in it and i changed my oil every 3k miles with penzoil plat since I bought it with 38k

The old ones befire 2016 have alot of issues but other than that THEY ARE GREAT

Got a 2016 2.0T Kia. You slap an oil catch can, new pcv valve from Oreillys, change your oil every 3k, 91 octane like I haveâŚ.itâll run for a good while. Just passed 100k

Pay $100 or however much it is depending on where u live take it to a shop to do a full diagnostic on the car they will let u know if u should buy the car or not thatâs what I do

Put some marvel mystery in it during next oil change let it run for a hour then change the oil . Follow steps next oil change also

I run a tire shop, imo Toyota, Honda and Hyundai/Kia have the most high-mileage examples. Occasionally ill be surprised by a GMC with 300k+. Each vehicle sometimes has complicated history. We have a client with a 470k Toyota Venza and a 600k Hyundai Sonata, however the sonata is on engine number two, still lasting over 400k at this point though. Both vehicles run good too.

I swear everyone who buys a Hyundai doesnât know what changing oil is. I think itâs not so much that they are even junk itâs the people who own them donât maintenance them
