Bear attacks are way more scary in Red Dead Redemption 2 VR...
#Shorts Check out my first full deep dive into the Red Dead Redemption 2 VR mod / RDR2 VR mod below, if you wondered whether it works on the Quest 2 then I'm happy to confirm everything in the following video was captured running on Oculus Quest 2 with a link cable!
** RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 VR MOD // RDR2 VR Gameplay Quest 2 **
The Red Dead Redemption 2 VR mod is here, a brand new Luke Ross VR mod dropped into early access this afternoon & my dream of being able to permanently disappearing into Rockstars incredible wild west epic is now one step closer to becoming a reality. Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 VR is a surreal experience that feels like it shouldn't be possible, even in this first draft of the VR mod (expect updates, changes and tweaks to come over the following weeks, months & maybe even years) it feels like something very impressive indeed. The size & scale of the world feels more overwhelming than ever & engaging in high octane shoot-outs has never been more invigorating. This is RDR2 VR, the first steps into the Red Dead Redemption 2 VR gameplay experience we've all been waiting for...
First things first, how do you get your grubby little mitts on the RDR2 VR mod? Well currently the mod is in early access & can only obtained via Luke Ross' Patreon, once you've pledged for a month you'll gain access to this early access build & can start playing Red Dead Redemption 2 VR straight away -
www.patreon.com/realvr/posts - A public build may follow in the future so if you'd prefer to wait for a more stable version I'm sure I'll be uploading plenty of content from the early access builds in the meantime.
If you've had any experience with the GTA V VR mod (the GTA V Real mod) then you'll probably have a rough idea of what to expect here from the RDR 2 VR mod. This isn't Vorpx, this is a full true 3D rendered version of Red Dead Redemption 2 that can be explored completely within a virtual reality environment. This initial test was carried out with an Oculus Quest 2 (an Oculus Quest 2 link cable setup to be specific) and the game was installed to run on the "high" settings. If you have an especially fancy PC then you can attempt "very high" or "ultra" but I thought I'd play it safe for my first test. The results were VERY impressive, the game ran smoothly & felt great in the headset with the only real draw back being some noticable softness to the traditionally crisp & defined visuals. I imagine the blurring/softening of the visuals is a direct result of getting the game to run well in VR & if you can run the game on higher settings this will no doubt become less & less noticable.
The bottom line here is Red Dead Redemption 2 VR took one step closer to reality today, Luke Ross has once again pushed the boundaries of modding & begun creating a product that triple A developers are failing to give VR consumers right now... I can't wait to live inside RDR2 VR & embark on many whacky cowboy adventures, stay tuned for more...
