Having 30cm between the fuel pump and pressure regulator and 30cm between the pressure regulator and non return valve allows then to operate correctly.
A shorter distance under 30cm may cause the wrong pressure to reach your carburettors or for the one way valve to not function properly.
The correct order is :
Fuel Tank
Fuel Filter (always before the pump so the pump receives filtered fuel)
Fuel Pump
Fuel pressure regulator
One way valve
Tpiece
Twin carbs
Note that the correct fuel pressure for Weber icts is 2.1psi
The one way valve is directional and operates above 2psi only. Its designed to cut the fuel flow once you switch your engine off and protect your engine from fuel contamination incase of needle or float failure.

Why the minimum 30cm between pump and regulator, and then again to one way valve?
Also is the one way valve necessary?
