I know you like to chop legs with an ax to rough out tapers, but an advantage of rip sawing the tapers is you get a perfectly matching shim for free!

I was expecting it to just be a joke but you could make a good fan out of those with a quick pin

Another tip for hand tool woodworkers -
Since you will be squaring stock by hand , you DO NOT need to have all the legs fully S4S ... All you need is the reference face and reference edge to be perfectly square where the aprons attach .. AND you dont even need the whole reference face and edge to be perfectly square , you ONLY need the first few inches where the apron attaches as only this portion will determine the squareness of the table. This would be a good video idea rex .. old timey woodworkers that only used hand tools knew this and they focused on the areas that mattered for squareness

The trick I was taught was to make a double screw vice. Same as the wood clamps, for general wood working it has a mouth screw and pressure screw. With the added benefit that I can lock them by putting the centre gear back in place so they move it lock step.

My grandpa say that if you don't put small chunks of wood between the vise and the wood you wanna trim cut or do stuff with, you will mark the wood.

Tip from machinist world: if you have a flat on one side and round on the other side object, it will help clamp on not perfectly true and straight objects and fix the reference only to one jaw of the vise. Basically the round side will only contact at a tangent point so youā€™ll always contact one fixed jaw perfectly and get a better average force on the rest of the part

Not exactly on topic but .... I have to agree, I went from oil stones to diamond plates and now .... I've gone back to stones again !!!

The one of the end it's used in Spain, put a piece of cloth between each wood bar and you will get an "abanico", wider whe wood the better as you have more air to you, but is also heavier.

I picked up a complete Emmert patternmakers vise a few years ago off marketplace for a steal. Itā€™s been sitting in my basement waiting for me to build a bench worthy of it. I highly recommend scooping one up if you come across one. That has a clamp configuration for basically everything.
