DISCLAIMER ♡ I made this video to convey a message about societal pressures that resonates with many teenage girls in this generation. In this day in age, vanity has become a bigger concern than ever before; it has reached the point where young impressionable children feel hyperconscious of their appearance + whether or not they fit the beauty standard (which takes precedence over normal issues that children are expected to have, like whether they should do homework for example). With the rise of social media, we are now expected to fit into this frame of looking picture perfect — to an unhealthy extent. Now, I think it’s a good thing that people are learning to embrace their appearance, and I do think beauty matters, but it shouldn’t be detrimental to your happiness or something that consumes your childhood/adolescence. I have obviously fell into this trap and I constantly need to remind myself that I am wonderfully and fearfully made. Luckily my self-image doesn’t preoccupy more important aspects of my life, but for many of my peers, it does. I wish I could change the narrative of how beauty is emphasized in society. What I can do is reinforce positivity and show others that life is more than just looks, and at the end of the day, your well being matters the most.
