It took me 20 years for this to click lol. Once it did it made a huge difference, but what led me there was all the things I had to 'fix' when mixing for others, and my eventual work at avoiding those things becoming issues in my own production. I wish I had realised it much earlier on

Definitely agree on this. After taking your mixing course, I realized I really needed to level up my engineering chops. And keep investing in proper sound treatment for my live room to get the stuff sounding right coming in.

I obsess about critical listening from when Im choosing samples to when I finish the mix (Im not worrying at the master stage)
