Halo: Spartan Assault is set between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4. Players control the human soldiers Sarah Palmer and Edward Davis as they fight a new splinter faction of the alien Covenant. The game launched with 25 single-player missions; an additional campaign released as downloadable content.

The game is divided into separate chapters, consisting of several missions, with a total of 30 tasks. The appearance of the environment, weapons and armor represent the design familiar to fans of the original. The game fully adopts the spirit of the older games in the series and corresponds to the canon.

Artificial intelligence has retained all the features of the original. Weaker enemies, unable to withstand the onslaught, rush to flight, waving their arms funny, and strong and tanking opponents themselves rush into hand-to-hand combat.

If the health points have not undergone changes in comparison with the original line of shooters and both an energy shield and a life bar are available at the disposal of the heroes, then the pumping system has been significantly "pumped": after a successful operation, the game has points for which the player buys improvements, only within the framework of one battle. So it is possible to buy an electric wave function that can immobilize enemy soldiers in a certain radius, including all equipment, activate an Autobot, which itself deals with opponents, or an instant ability to restore a shield.

In Halo: Spartan Assault, you can customize the Spartan and customize the hero for yourself. Skull modifiers make the game much more difficult and are made for a more hardcore audience. At the same time, the player receives more additional points and bonuses for the complicated game mode. In addition, there is military equipment on the battlefield, in the form of Spartan Grizzly tanks, with the ability to hijack enemy covenant "Ghosts".
