The issue isn’t the rate, the problem is that we have allowed private unregulated banks to issue currency out of thin air and loan it to the US then require it be paid back plus interest that doesn’t exist, all the while those same dollars are taxed over and over throughout our economy, all the while they continue to print trillions of said fake currency into the economy thereby devaluing our money to just a tiny fraction of it’s original value.
