A preventer could save your head from getting smacked by the boom, it’s important to know how to rig them properly.
And I’ll express my thoughts on it again, aim rig it so that the preventer line goes back to the cockpit otherwise undoing it in an emergency could be a shitshow, find what works best for your boat.
If it’s your own boat, not a charter boat like we usually go out sailing with rig a proper system with a snap shackle and blocks to have control from the cockpit and an option to undo in an emergency.

Theres also some preventer gadgets out there, only saw them online never saw them in real life so can’t really recommend them, go explore the internet.
