I have a set of old hickorys, they're my travel/camp knives. Absolutely love them.

Used to use my great grandmas old hickory blade like this one when I’d play in the woods

My grandpa, just made a sheath for grandmas butcher knife and that was his hunting knife. He had larger butcher knives for processing the animal and cattle and stuff at the ranch. He also used a large Case Stockman pocket knife doing most smaller game. I think actual hunting type knives came around in the 1920s when there was a big push for city people to get out into the woods and camp and hunt.

I actually have the blade of one outside in my shed I’ve been working on for years on and off. I got it from my last job using it to take bark off of wood pallets so the fact this brand is as prestigious as it seems and I’ve been thinking it’s a regular butcher/chopper makes me smile! It’s really good steak I actually just put a handle on it and sharpened it almsot to shaving sharp!

There os a butcher knife maker in England that is still in business and makes the same knife the mountain men carried with a slab sided 6 pin handle John Knewell and sons.

This is correct but the only thing in common the english made butcher knives of the mountain man era had in common with this knife is the shape. The linear forging marks on this knife are a mid 20th century thing.
