my mother was never physically abusive but verbally manipulative and hurtful. I never kept journals but I remembered things said... for years afterwards word for word it lived in my head. I finally went no contact when I just couldn't anymore and my dad refused to call her on her ish even though he acknowledged it happened.

Couldnāt have a journal growing up because I found out that my adoptive mom went snooping through it when I wasnāt home and then blamed me for not wanting a journal

Seeing this today is something kinda .... something after months of minimal contact the drama is back.

The one time I tried to reach out to my mom after going no contact was after me and my ex reconciled and we had a good time my mom literally said I know you're struggling but other people have problems too while SIMULTANEOUSLY complaining about all of her problems that SHE CAUSED honestly after that I had to deal with my ex's bullshit and she did a similar thing and I dropped them both like a hot coal and a bad habit I have no intention on going back unless they change their ways and if they don't for the rest of their lives so be it

I stopped keeping journals because they would read them and use them as fuel against me. I still just cant do it.

Unfortunately our parents canāt see our side of things.
I believe itās because they didnāt have the ability to develop the tools/emotional skills that would allow them to see another point of view that they donāt hold.
I feel sorry for my mom especially. I donāt think she will ever truly be herself or be happy.
And Iām not gonna go down with the ship.
Anyways, if you had to go no contact with a family member so you can finally know peace, I see you.
And Iām sorry you had to make that decision.
