I have a new young doctor (in her late 20's) as mine retired 2 years ago. I had my first checkup with her and she ordered a full panel of updated bloodwork. I had it done and followed up with her 2 weeks later. My bloodwork came back great but my cholesterol is "elevated" and since I am 52 she said I need to be put on a statin right away. I asked her why and her response was that once you turn 50 you should be on a statin to prevent a heart attack and/or stroke. I challenged this statement and explained to her in a very polite manner my viewpoint on statins. I asked about a CAC scan and a low density particle test and she said no because nothing warrants those tests at this time. To top it off, I have ITP (very low platelets - auto immune disease) since I was 8 years old. It's usually around 65,000. If it goes below 35,000 I may need to be hospitalized and monitored closely and yet I have to be on a statin for no reason which could potentially lower my platelet count as a side effect! Unbelievable! God help us all. Oh, I was also told to change my diet to low fat. Only egg whites, cheerios (for lowering cholesterol), 0% yogurt, cut out saturated fats, eat skinless white chicken breasts etc... I swear we are doomed! Changes need to start at the medical schools. Otherwise the cycle just keeps on repeating itself.

Made my body hurt such as knees and joints. So I quit taking them. My last check up my doctor told me you know eventually your going to have to start back taking them. I said to myself not and I looked at him like your crazy as hell. I be following your advice Vinnie I downloaded your NSNG booklet and doing the program and itā€™s amazing how much it has effected my body. By the way got your confidential book and love the podcasts. Thanks Vinnie for all you do keep up the great work! šŸ˜šŸ

Aches in my muscles. Then my Dr. gave me the one that doesnā€™t have those side effects, and I suffered memory loss. I will never take them again. I have a good HDL to triglyceride ratio. Thanks Vinnie for all the education youā€™ve put out there.

I am being prescribed Atorvastatin & since hearing your interaction with the MD on wanting to prescribe statins, I have done further research & have been weaning myself off my statin. Itā€™s an awful reason to take them when you have no heart health that shows youā€™re at riskā€”because doctors can receive kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies to dispense them to their patients.

After a massive heart attack 3.5 years ago - 5 stents - i fought my cardiologist about statins!! On the pharmaceutical company's website - statins do not prevent heart attacks. AND they have huge side effects .So why the freak would i take them - doc? "Well all drugs have side effect." That was his response to my real concerns. Never get bullied into taking a really bad-for-you drug by an MD!!! You're in charge of your health! Stand up!! I'm not on any drugs nearly 4 years later and I'm doing great!!!!šŸ˜‚

Itā€™s very difficult to find someone age appointment to date because they are on these meds with accompanying side effects or are otherwise metabolically compromised.

I had a client, a vp for a biotech firm in Cambridge, try to get me on statins.
Every day for 5 days he'd bring a different colleague from a different nationality, Swiss ,Mexican , Italian, British, Indian.
Trying to convince me to get on the program.
Fat chance. I'm 59, no meds, active, no side effects!
Cheers Jeff
P.S.
I went to old Woodlawn class 83!
