quick tip for avoiding textures on paint surfaces: use a dotting tool instead of a brush and use viscous but runny polish. if you've ever used paint regularly with solvents or diluents you know what consistency im referring to. there's this sweet spot in every liquid consistency where molecularly, it's the most optimal physical state to pour. if you get a handle on what that feels like with your different polishes, then you can use your gel polishes' self leveling tendency, which is essentially a parameter of how pour'able something is, to draw by dragging the dotting tool instead of loading brush bristles.
this method works so well that Moriah Elizabeth, here on YT, uses dotting tools to paint with fabric paint on squishies. fabric paint feels like a non-viscous version of heavy body acrylic paint and they're both difficult to finish smoothly. almost impossible really, especially cz acrylic paint has an inherent gloss to it and it dries with visible texture. so it's almost always reflecting how uneven a surface is after it dries, and the dotting tool minimizes this tremendously.
it's even easier w gel polish, cz unlike acrylic, gel polish self levels and likes to be guided around. use big dotting tools to cover a large area to avoid leaving tool impressions behind as some pigments don't lend themselves to redistribution after the polish has been laid down.
