Imagine creating an airplane factory simply because you were impatient.

I hadn't heard of the Alexander Aircraft comp, prior to THG sharing this with us, and I've always thought of myself as an aircraft nerd and pilot.
Thanks History Guy!

There's gold in them hills.
Created his answer to reaching clients.
Created a ready made market.
Filled that market, and more.
Solve a problem.

I grew up in an Air Force family in Colorado Springs where friends & their family members did all kinds of jobs at Alexander. The best one came during the 1960s when my buddy, during the Vietnam War build up, was running a sheet metal machine that punched out seat pieces that were 😮shipped to big aircraft companies for assembly and installation in various military planes. I returned from school in 1966 and tried to get a job there. All I got when I was leaving was a piece of history: Two guys with flags walked out onto the "main drag" thru town, stopped traffic, and a small, old plane taxi-ed out and took off from a narrow single lane runway hidden on the median. A few days later the company closed & went out of business. Thanks THG for some special memories

This is how a lot of companies find their niche. Amazon wasn’t a data and cloud storage company, they just needed to run their store and suddenly became big tech.

What's wonderful is... there are folks who work hard to bring stories to life, that would otherwise be forgotten.

"With just 10 hours of flight lesson."
Jesus, 10 hours of lessons then he was allowed to fly back to his hometown in it.
The early days of aviation (well, any mode of transportation) were wild.

United Airlines DC-10 Captain Vic Hansen SEAFO (since passed away, RIP Vic, still miss you) owned and flew an Alexander Eaglerock as an historical hobby. He said he'd rig a piece of 1/4" hardware cloth (actually, a metal screen) around the cylinders to catch all the little engine parts that would vibrate and fall off. He said it was easier to find them in the screen than have to buy news one after every flight.

I believe that airplane in hanging, life-like in flight, in the KSEA Seattle-Tacoma International Airport at the south end of the main terminal entrance and ticket counter area.

"Taught the others how to fly." Boggles my mind that a 10 hour pilot was the expert who taught the others how not to die. Different times.

I spent some time in Colorado Springs on business. The city is proud of it's heritage and there were a lot of publications that described the origins of the city. You would think that they would brag about hosting the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, but, this is the first I have heard of this airplane business. I still have the books I bought back then. Now I have to look for more information. This is why I am subscribed to The History Guy!

Is this where we get the "eagle rock" line in Ballin’ the Jack
by Danny Kaye?
"First you put your two knees close up tight
You swing them to the left and then you swing them to the right
Step around the floor kinda nice and light
And then you twist around, twist around with all of your might
Spread your lovin' arms way out in space
You do the eagle rock with such style and grace
You put your left foot out and then you bring it back
That's what I call ballin' the jack"
