If the wood floors were sanded and finished correctly- there is not reason good tape will pull the floor finish off!

However if someone just added a new coat of clear coat to a floor without sanding etc yep that floor finish is gonna pull up all day long!!

Tape will absolutely remove the finish off of hardwood floor. I had a backsplash job last year that required demoing the old backsplash first, I taped down construction paper to protect the floors from any debris, with Frog Tape. If I remember correctly it was the green Frog Tape and it pulled up some of the finish when I removed it. So yes, you have to be careful with finished hardwood.
