My experience landing on soft fields in a 182 has taught me NOT to reduce power to idle. Depending on the depth of earth that is soft, idling power can create a situation where taxiing becomes very difficult if not impossible. Keeping the power variable vs a trained response to idle the power will likely provide a much better outcome. Consider too the size of tires on your aircraft. Bigger tires vs standard 6x6 tires offer better management of soft field ops if soft field ops are done more often than not.

Wow, you made that look easy. Thank you for explaining that in enough detail to help me mentally see the whole landing. Understand the reason why you do this and not that really helps. I would have let plane set down but then slowed too much and used brakes to keep it slow.I like tail draggers so I'll probably trim some grass and dug holes before the prop stops or comes apart.

This might work on a 4,000 foot strip but most grass strips are 2k or less kinda need to combine short and soft field techniques
