The man's name is Giligan and the dog is Charlie, it happened on a rabbit hunting trip in New Mexico. The dog was shot few weeks later suspectedly by a rancher, I'm guessing people that don't mind their business and think the dog has some evil spirit of something, one of his remaining 2 dogs was also killed (Cowboy)
