So, did you release this clip as a teaser for an unreleased video or so? I would like to know more about what Friston thinks about IIT and how it relates / does not relate to the free energy principle. But this clip stops very quickly and doesn’t get to the topic of consciousness at all, despite the title suggesting it being about that.

I'm not familiar with that particular controversy, but it's not surprising to hear that the underlying story is ultimately about funding. We say that "science is a search for truth", but on a practical day-to-day level, science is a search for funding.
I'm not saying that truth is entirely determined by the people with the biggest donations. As a research engineer, my proudest moments were when good methodology dragged us kicking and screaming away from our fondest hopes and dreams. We should always remember, however, that the truths we see are very much a function of where we choose to look.
