Jatigede Reservoir is a reservoir located in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province.[1] The construction of this reservoir has long been planned since the days of the Dutch East Indies. This reservoir was built in 2008 during the presidency of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and was only inaugurated in 2015 and fully operational in 2017.[2] This reservoir was built by damming the flow of the Cimanuk River in the Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency with a capacity of 979.5 million cubic meters of water. Jatigede Reservoir is the second largest reservoir in Indonesia.

History. The construction of this reservoir has been planned since the days of the Dutch East Indies. At that time, the Dutch East Indies government planned to build three reservoirs along the Cimanuk River and the Jatigede reservoir was the main and the largest reservoir. However, the construction of the three reservoirs was met with opposition from the local community, so the construction was cancelled. It wasn't until the 1990s that plans to build the Jatigede dam got warm again.

Development. The first step taken by the government is relocating the people who live in the potential inundation area. The inundation area of ​​the Jatigede Reservoir covers 28 villages in Darmaraja District, Wado District, Jatigede District and Jatinunggal District. The first relocation was carried out in 1982. The design of this reservoir construction was carried out in 1988, and continued 20 years later, namely the construction process in 2007-2015.[3] On August 31, 2015, the reservoir was inundated as well as the inauguration by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimulyono. Jatigede Reservoir was built with a budget cost of up to 467 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 6,538,000,000,000 at an exchange rate of Rp. 14,000.

Social Impact. The Jatigede Reservoir project, which has been initiated since the Sukarno era, leaves complex problems apart from causing sixteen thousand residents of Sumedang Regency to be affected, an ecological disaster that has caused the loss of about 1 million productive green lands, the threat of massive unemployment, dozens of Sundanese cultural sites since the 8th century era. until the Kingdom of Pajajaran threatened to sink. The multinational project left unresolved issues until the launch of the inundation which was opened by President Jokowi at the end of August 2015.
