We wore boxers in the late 80s too. We bought Hanes men’s boxers and tees, tie dyed them, rolled the waist at least twice, and added biker long shorts underneath and shoulder pads to the tee shirt. Bonus points for Aussie sprunch sprayed permed hair.

We wore plaid men's boxers to gym class in 1994 , coordinating pocket tees with the sleeves rolled once, and white tretons. The key was to get the boxers with a seam in the back, not the kind that poofed out like a diaper.
