From a utility standpoint itβs probably useful that it can turn 360, imagine it moves boxes from one shelf to another behind and all it has to do is rotate instead of stepping around to turn. Presentation was hilarious, but its definitely a flex.

The range of motion puts it squarely in uncanny valley despite the lack of a face. Still necessary for it to be good at a wider range of tasks

The 360-degree articulation of its joints is impressive. To me, it's not unsettling at all. Envision the commercial, industrial, and eventual consumer applications for such a versatile robot. I believe there's no need for humanoid robots to be constrained by the same range of motion as humans.

Boston Dynamics is showing that they moved away from hydraulic actuators and managed to create a robot with electric motors, which are more flexible and controllable.
On the goodbye video of the old version they showed a lot of cases where pumps and pipes were exploding and now they show the versatility of the new version, which can be more compact and dynamic.
