Well, merely because there isn't any other creature around with an olfactory organ to detect the particles expelled into the surrounding air by the bear's flattulence doesn't meen that said particles aren't capable of stimulating such olfactory organs, and thus "smell".
In short, yes it does.
By the same token, the vibrations (a.k.a "sound") in the air caused by the falling of a tree does not remove the ability of said vibration to be detected by a creature's auditory organs.

The answer is simple my dear Skippy. If a tree falls in the woods and lands on a Bear the tree did make a sound because the Bear was there to hear it. If the Bear farts before he dies, the Bear smelt it and there fore he knows who dealt it.. However, It the Bear dies before he farts and there's no other creatures around, then it does not smell. See, simply. (My head hurts.)
